Retirement Planning sucks. For most people, the process for retirement planning follows a few basic steps.
Step 1: They see a commercial on TV about planning for retirement or they talk to someone at work about the process. This inevitably leads them to feel bad about their current lack of a personal retirement plan, so they decide they really need to get on the ball and do something about it.
Step 2: Overwhelmed with guilt about the state of their long term financial future, most people immediately begin scouring Google for as much information as they can about retirement planning. Not only is this pointless from the standpoint of actually finding something useful, but for most people, the sheer volume of information that they encounter actually confused them more.
Step 3: Resignation sets in as the average persons decides that financial understanding is beyond them. At this point in the process, most people simply give-up altogether and go back to watching TV. Of course, as soon as they see another commercial about retirement planning or have another conversation about it, they start over with step 1.........
Ok, if you are sick of going through these steps over and over, let me help you out with a little bit of advice. Keep it simple stupid. If you are worried about retirement, go find someone to talk about it with who happens to be a trained professional.
For most people, someone at their work is paid to, or at least trained to, deal with employee financial questions. The biggest obstacle is simply over coming your pride and asking about whatever it is on your mind. Whether it is a max 401k contribution or a Roth Rollover, the dude down in the HR department is going to walk you through the process, step-by-step.
If you cant find someone to talk to at your job, look for someone within your community. Most investing agencies offer free or low cost trial consultations. Even if they just want to get your money, most of the dudes that work at those type of places actually do enjoy talking about money and investing, and will give you legitimate advice.
